What Is A Slab Leak In Orlando? Do You Have One?

Most of the homes and businesses in Central Florida are built on concrete slab foundations. Plumbing pipes located directly below the property are without any type of buffer.

So if one of these pipes happens to leak, from corrosion, rust, chemicals in the water, pressure, critters, and environmental conditions, it can easily seep into your home quickly causing extensive damage.

How to Detect a Slab Water Leak?

Keep an eye on your water bill

Whether it is a sudden surge or a slow climb, watch your water bill. It is easy to go on-line to look up previous bills to compare.

Check for warm areas on the floor

When the hot water line has sprung a leak under the floor,  water accumulates. The heat transfer creates warm areas on the floor.

Take a good look around the outside of your building

Slab leaks tend to build up moisture that ends up outside your home. Look for mud, standing water, moss or an area that is greener than others.

Look inside the build for cracks in the ceiling or walls

Hairline cracks can happen over time as the building settles, new or sudden cracks may indicate a slab leak.

Listen for running water

Listen for the sound of running water when all fixtures and appliances are turned off. You may also want to check the water meter.

Locating a Slab Leak

You can attempt to look for them yourself by poking random holes in the walls, tearing up floor boards and digging around the yard. Or, you can call a professional leak detection company who will have the right equipment to find the smallest of leaks, repair the leak and restore your home as good as new, saving you money, time and frustration.
