Orlando Residents; Receive A Higher Than Normal Water Bill? Now What?

You just received your water bill and it’s higher than ever! Now what? It can quickly add up to a lot of money and where is all the extra water going?

Here are a few things you can do

There are a few reasons why your water bill may be so high?

Check to see if it has a previous bill period attached.

Has your water provider recently increased the prices?

Did you recently have company over or use more water than normal?

There may have been an error in reading your meter.

You may have an undetected water leak.

What steps to take if you have a higher than normal water bill?

Check the reading on your water meter

The water meter is typically in the ground close to the street. Just lift up the lid and read the numbers. It should read slightly higher than that on your water bill. If the numbers match up, you need to call your water company.

Test your home for a water leak

Water leaks are more often than not, the culprit behind a higher than normal water bill. Check all exposed pipes, such as under sinks, toilets, outside hoses, and appliances. Also, look for any pooling water outside and damp areas inside.

Test your home for water leaks by turning off any water in the home, including appliances that use any water. Record the reading on the outside water meter. Without using any water, check back in about an hour. Recording the reading again. If there is a difference in the numbers, you probably have a water leak.

Not al water leaks are visible. In fact, the majority are not noticeable because they occur underground or inside walls and ceilings.

There are a number of reasons why a pipe has sprung a leak. It just takes a pinhole size leak to waste a lot of money and thousands of gallons of water. Not to mention the repair cost from the damage and mold.

If you suspect a water leak, don’t ignore it! Contact the Leak Doctor, in the long run you will save time, money, and a ton of frustration!
