Detecting Atlanta Plumbing Leaks Made Easy!

Detecting water leaks in your Atlanta area home or business is easier than you think! Many plumbing leaks are easy to track down and repair. Others may be more difficult, but with the help from the Leak Doctor, they can be located and repaired with minimum damage to the property and don’t worry it’s very affordable!

The first step is figuring out if you have a plumbing leak. The easiest way is to check your water meter. It is typically outside in the front yard near the street. During a time when there isn’t any water being used, write down the the numbers.  In a couple of hours, without using any water during that time, check the meter again. It should read the same, if not you have a water leak.

The EPA suggests checking these areas if you suspect a water leak.

In the Bathroom

Toilets: Listen for running water and conduct the food coloring test described on the first page.

Faucets: Listen for drips and turn on the tap to check for water going the wrong direction.

Showerheads: Turn on and look for drips or stray sprays that can be stopped with tape.

In the tub: Turn on the tub, then divert the water to the shower and see if there’s still a lot of water coming from the tub; that could mean the tub spout diverter needs replacing.

Under the sink: Check for pooling water under pipes and rust around joints and edges.

In the Kitchen

Faucet: Listen for drips and tighten aerators or replace fixtures if necessary.

Under the sink: Check for pooling water under pipes and rust around joints and edges.

Appliances: Check for pooling water underneath dishwashers and refrigerators with ice makers, which could indicate a supply line leak.

In the Laundry Room

Under the sink: Check for pooling water under pipe connections.

Clothes washer: Check for pooling water, which could indicate a supply line leak.

Don’t Forget Outside

At the spigot: Ensure tight connections with the hose and see if the hose washer needs replacing.

In-ground irrigation system: Check for broken sprinklers or nozzles spraying in the wrong direction.

You may not think a small water leak means that much, after all it's just a few drops. But those few drops really add up!

If you suspect a water leak it is important to have repaired right away. With the latest technology, this means there won't be any breaking into walls or floors to find the source. Just contact the Leak Doctor for more information.
